DKMS, the world’s biggest non-profit bone marrow donor center, will be holding a bone marrow drive in cooperation with Disney Theatrical Productions, and the cast and crew of “The Lion King” in honor of their fellow cast member, Shannon Tavarez. Eleven year old Tavarez is one of the many patients badly in need of a bone marrow transplant due to acute leukemia. Tavarez plays the role of young Nala in the Broadway production of “The Lion King” which takes place at the Minskoff Theatre.

On June 15 the Lion King, the Tony award-winning musical that is playing currently at the Minskoff theater, will be welcoming several new actors for their cast.

Gareth Saxe joins the cast as Scar, the power hungry and evil lion; Alton Fizgerald White will play Mufasa, Pridelands ruler and great lion warrior; Cameron Pow will portray Zazu, the proper and prim hornbilled bird; Ben Jeffrey will play Pumbaa, the carefree warthog; Fred Berman will play the role of Timon, the wisecracking meercat; and Chauntee Schuler will play Nala the loyal lioness.

Schuler, Berman and Jeffrey are making their Broadway debuts with Lion King. Also featured in the cast are Tshidi Mayne playing Rafiki, James Brown-Orleans in the role of Banzai, Dashaun Young playing Simba, Mufasa’s son, Enrique Segura in the role of Ed, and Bonita J. Hamilton playing Shenzi.

The Lion King will be coming to the Providence Performing Arts Center in Providence, Rhode Island from February 1 – February 20, 2011. Tickets will go onsale to the general public through Ticketmaster though onsale information has yet to be released.

Lion King the musical will be pounding and growling Rochester, NY this March when it hits the Auditorium Theatre for a month long run as part of its tour, from March 22 to April 17, 2011.

The hugely successful musical The Lion King will be staging its season-long run in Toronto’s Princess of Wales Theatre from spring till early summer, from April 19 to June 12, 2011.

This summer, Simba, Nala and the rest of Pride Rock – plus some outcasts (remember Scar and the hyenas?) – will be roaring and shaking things up in Dayton, OH as it stages its limited summer engagement at the Schuster Center from June 14 to July 10, 2011.
